Okay honestly everything ur saying is valid af except for one part, from what I remembered the reason he was marrying the duchess was to strengthen his family again cus yk he was in a coma for a good few years, dude was planning on strengthening the family, leaving it to his stepson and living a relaxed life with leah cus yk she's a commoner and no one would be able to oppose him and to achieve this they had a contract marriage (what if Leah wanted her kids to take that position is also a very valid question). Dudes kind of dumb but he did have a plan.

and the plot point that "oh she didnt respond to his letters :c" makes no damn sense because personally if i sent someone to live with my brother... hmm... I think i'd check up on both of them once in EIGHT YEARS??? and most likely after the period of time i promised said person i would return for them.
