So so stupid

Literally they could have told her the truth the moment she came in and one of 2 things would have happened.

1. She believed it from the start and accepted it as the truth.
2. She thinks it’s a huge prank/joke and she laughs it off.

With both of these options, no one has at any point in time lied to her. Even if she finds out later that it wasn’t a joke, she can link it back to the time they told her the truth and she can learn to accept it easier since it’s just the case of accepting or not accepting. With the added lies, now comes betrayal and fear and distrust and anger and humiliation and loneliness that she also needs to confront. At any point in time, they could have just told her the truth and left it as it was since the worst thing that can happen is she doesn’t believe you and hates being pranked and the best is that she believes it and accepts it wholeheartedly but there really is no downside. This doesn’t make you a hypocrite or a person with questionable morals unlike lying for months does. If she believes you and thinks you’re all wacko then so be it. Play into the wacko by continuing to tell the truth. She will probably join in on the fun and spin her own tales. Everyone but her is so stupid.
