I think he meant that he was going out not to meet with people, just to drink to distract himself. Like he wasn’t there meeting woman, just chilling drinking alone
Yes, I figured that honestly, but as written, it leaves room for misunderstandings. That's why I called out the author ( in jest) , or perhaps the translation:)
"It's not that I wanted to drink with anyone, I just didn't want to go back to the hotel without you"... Um... that still sounds like an excuse for cheating..lol.. or preparing to cheat. NOT reassuring at all author.
