If there is a warning and they ignore it then it's their fault BUT if we talk about the matter in general :
Yaoi is under the Boy's LOVE genre, so yeah some people read it while expecting something else, I always felt like this trope was an easy and lazy way to get the story moving, like the authors don't want to look for something more real or complex & only use something they know will please some fans and who worked many times.
You like the rape trope ? Fine by me, but I'll never understand why people who love rape trope look down on people who despise it like they're the one in the wrong and shouldn't read yaoi to begin with (not talking about you personally just a general thing I noticed)
I know it's fiction and such BUT I can't shake the feeling that no you don't rape someone you supposedly love, by doing that you disrespect them and don't give a damn about them or their feelings and how you hurt them, they can regret and apologize, for me they're still a piece of shit who will do it again, even if in the rest of the stroy they act like the most faithful and cutest thing around.
So yeah I avoid that trope as much as I can since I read yaoi to enjoy not to feel angry (at the rapist and his victim for accepting it so easily).
I have more than a thousand of manga on my reading/already read list and around 75% of it are BL without rape->love. So yeah BL without rape exist & I'm happy about that.
It's a genre where we can all enjoy what we like and look for.
Woooow It's way longer that I hoped ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
Moreover some readers are too sensitive in something, don't even get what the author told or what other members commented about. They just pick up trifle point then mess others' topics by keep complaining endlessly.
And the topic owners're the one who have to get spamming notification though they don't wanna argue with anyone.
More like people are judging people who like taboo trope because they personally don't like it honestly, it gets out of hand and they start attacking other people.
There's of course a lot of story without rape and many stories without sex even, but since manhua/manhwa/manga are East Asian variant of comic, many issue such as dubcon and many "issue" common in East Asia brings about a form of culture shock to the West, most story with taboo topic hits more at home with us since Asians are full of stress and end up doing many bad things. Abusive or dark theme I have read tend to be more realistic and similar to my life experience as well as with many other Asians, and people complain about such comic being problematic and unrealistic. When stress come seeing story where people end up in bad position stirs up our arousal as well.
This constantly gets ignored and people think their country and their morality should be a benchmark for other countries, insults like abuser, pedophile start to get thrown around, it's hard now to enjoy a comic, targeted at the audience I am included in, without getting hate.
But of course that doesn't explain why people like to read problematic content if they hate it so much.
They don't like it sometimes okay fine by me comment complain and forget because sometimes they cant judge a book by its cover and sometime there is only rape warning and they mostly have problem with romantacize rape then rape itself .but what pisses me off the most is when they try to tell us that something is wrong with our brain for liking it and it will affect us or how can we even like something when someone is getting raped .i have heard it so many time now that i have stopped looking at comments. I hate when people say i dont uunderstand how some people can like things like this it okay you don't like it nobody is telling you too but don't go telling people what to prefer.
yeah people here get easily triggered. Me also. hahaha. If I see bullying in a manga I click off immediately because I have been bullied in school and It reminds me of my bitter experiences.
Well if it's not tagged they never had any way of knowing to begin with. It'd make sense to complain about that. There's a lot of yaoi that don't contain rape, incest or abuse and some prefer to read those. Even with tags they aren't completely helpful. Like if someone were to see a rape tag they'd know to expect rape somewhere in the story but they wouldn't know how often it occurs. There's some yaoi with only one rape and others centered around rape, the tag doesn't distinguish the two. A lot of people assume that people that don't like a certain aspect that's tagged to be easily triggered but that's not always true either. It could be the way it was incorporated into the story they didn't like, which is something they wouldn't know until they read it.
If people want to complain, just let them complain. If they disliked it they won't be staying long after posting the comment. The manga discussions should be the place where people can criticize or praise the manga but the usual reply to a negative comment is "if you don't like it don't read it". Many have to read it to know if they'll like it and they should be able to talk about that if they want. Shooing people away makes them stick around longer and/or attracts more people.
Negative opinions aren't going to stop but it'd be nice if commenters didn't start a war over them. Why should it matter if someone is complaining? Their opinion won't stop you from reading the manga. When those rape debates get heated both sides become judgmental assholes (There's SJWs condemning everyone who likes it but there's also people who blame all westerners and post borderline racist comments). Both sides bitching equally irritate me and everyone needs to let it go at that point
On many other websites they are tagged, but there's a lot of people who say the comic is sickening and proceeding to attack anyone who say they liked the comic. Sometimes it's nice to go to the comment section and talk about the story, but when the entire comment section is people talking about how people who like the comic are sick/should be in jail or something like that, it's really depressing. You can complain but should still try to keep civil instead of insult people. A comment saying "the (taboo topic) was handled terribly, maybe would've been better if xxx happened" is always more pleasant and constructive than "If you like this you're a pedophile/abuser/rapist, it's sickening"
It doesn't stop people from reading the manga, but when everyone complain about the manga the comment section becomes a bit negative, it's hard to just say "Wow I liked this comic" when majority complaining about the issue, is like outing yourself in your workplace that you masturbate to your brother or something. I can understand the racist comments though, since manga catered towards Japanese, easily many things can be cultural shock to other people and it's very unpleasant to be told that xxx thing common in your country is offensive.
Extremist EXTREMIST are the big problem here who like to push their morals on each others throats ( ̄へ ̄)and you know sometimes when evry thing is over some late timers will come and read the old comments and will start things all over .it seems like never ending war is going on nowdays.its like people who actually want to talk about the manga and characters like what is happening in it can't talki about it because of the whole war is going on.its too frustrated sometimes (╯°Д °)╯╧╧
I definitely agree with you. They call people 'sick and fucked up'. It's so degrading and insulting. We're enjoying fiction. It's not like if I enjoy violent movies with explosions it means I want my neighbour's house to blow up or something.
I'm usually from the group of people who are called sick and messed up because so generally enjoy most yaoi with a few exceptions
I agree but I think both sides are at fault. The people complaining about it usually start the problem but the people who like it prolong the problem. Racism from either side is not acceptable. Not all Westerners hate manga containing romanticized rape just as not all Easterners like it. When it's at its worst, neither side tries to respect cultural differences of the other and would rather use hasty generalizations to categorize people who do/don't like it instead of listening to opinions of the other. These arguments are two sides. Both sides ruin the comments section for everyone.
This has been confusing me for a long time, but why do people who are easily triggered by rape, incest, abuse, and such topic read an entire genre of comics where such topics are prevalent? Sometimes they get warnings but they decide to ignore and then complain about it afterwards... Why???
