I def think Eishin still has his memories, either he doesn't want to keep seeing Aesis die or he thinks staying away will prevent their early deaths. But at the beginning, Aesis almost died anyway... So if it's because of the second reason, then it wouldn't work. If it's the first, it's understandable. Watching your loved one die over and over and over has got to be one of THE worst things a person can go through.
If he actually has memory loss but he can't control how much he cares about Aesis, that'd be kind of cute still. But it'd be tragic in the way that only Aesis remembers the good and the bad. This chapter, when he was like "seems like you had fun" or whatever it was he seems a bit surprised? Like "we suffered so much but you still look back at it fondly?" sort of surprise.
