I thought Tia could just get engaged to Perez before they announced anything, factions wouldn't allow both princes to be engaged to the same family.
Really?!! That’s great. I mean at this point, Lombardi is more ‘powerful’ and ‘rich’ than the imperial family. They can stand alone.
The things is, tia is a future matriarch candidate, that means marriage is illegal between her and perez(as of now)
Well... our Lombardi grandpa opposes the marriage between the crown prince and the cousin. The emperor, however, still insists on the engagement, and that's why grandpa shuts down all businesses (only in the capital city/ where the imperial family resides) that belong to Lombardi (and as expected, chaos follows right after, cuz Lombardis are in charge of a lot of essential things).
The emperor retaliates by banning the head of Lombardi from entering the capital city, grandpa can only return once he approves of the engagement.
On top of that, the Empress tells the emperor to add a new law that only allows first born sons to be successors (so the heads of families cannot choose their own successors, our Lombardi grandpa would be force to choose Viese as a next successor, and Perez would never be able to become an emperor). Our grandpa is ofc against this law, but he cannot go to the council meeting to oppose this because he's banned from entering the city.
Therefore, Tia and Perez decides to be engaged to each other. The thing is the emperor only stated, that grandpa has to approve of the engagement between the house of Lombardi and the imperial family - the 2 engaged people don't necessarily need to be the crown prince and the cousin. Both grandpa Lombardi and emperor approve of this decision, therefore the emperor lifts the ban and grandpa goes to the meeting and successfully convince the others to vote against adding that stupid law.
And yeah, while the whole Lombardi vs emperor drama is going on, Tia assists her cousin in running away, the cousin ends up marrying the person she loves.
