I feel like some of the complaints about this arc lowkey shames Hatano for liking an adult. To be clear, I like the mind reader, but teens have crushes on older people / adults all the time. It’s natural and not something they should feel ashamed by, in the whole flurry of many things they already feel are weird about themselves while growing up. The creepy part is if the adult reciprocates. Mob-kun at this point is not at all reciprocating and it’s just Hatano being happy that he gets to meet his crush, so what’s the problem?
And it’s misguided to say that Hatano and Mob-kun dating as *adults* is automatically ‘grooming’. Mob-kun is NOT grooming Hatano. He’s refusing Hatano repeatedly! If they ever date as adults, it would be Hatano pushing to do so on his own terms as an adult—not him being pressured / manipulated into doing so since he was a minor.
TL;DR We shouldn’t be performative and should really understand what’s grooming.
