I respectfully disagree. I don't know if you come from a country where it is common for the athletes to win Olympic medals, but some countries with way less chances really do respect and treasure their Olympians.
I do agree that countries with less Olympic athletes or chance to win a medal will celebrate an athlete who won one more than other countries that win medals more often but this takes place in Korea which did not just get one gold medal in the last Olympics games so it's still exaggerated and massive dick riding to make the MC look cooler/stronger whatever

Girl this is not IRL. In The setting of this mahwa sure jaekyoung won gold once but they barely managed to win bronze at the next Olympics (jaekyoung was injured) but yeah the whole premise of the story is that they (the swimming federation) only got funding for athletes bc jiheon (the uke) won a championship. so they put in place a scholarship to get athletes to train abroad bc Korea was SO bad. In their world jeakyoung was the only one that managed to win a gold in the Olympics. and he did not even want to participate in the next Olympics, but the federation got scared bc he was basically the only reason they were still getting funding (in the novel federations get funding based on the athlete's performance) so yeah when you're the only guy in Korea that got a gold olympic medal, won the pan-pacific, asian games and basically won the national team's bronze medal and win gold in five different individual events four years later at the next Olympic, yeah his dick is gonna be ridden alright.
Even in this setting nobody's gonna stand there and say "let's watch this ad" still unrealistic and if the author wants some attention to the ml and do some dick riding at least hide it a bit like in the other manwhas
actually I've seen people say the same for idols doing ads, if not worse. and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think athletes in Korea are just as popular as idols to the point that many have been invited to TV shows. not to mention, Jaekyoung is REALLY handsome. you know how lookism Korean people can be.

Did you miss the part of him being an Olympian, he’s been holding world records since he was a teen, that’s literally his thing in this story. World records means “the world”, not just Korea.
