he officially has a title, but he isn’t really committing to his responsibilities since he’s under the queen’s (his mom’s) thumb and has carcel do anything army related. so he’s a bum and he needs to leave ines ALONE. POLICE!!!!!!!!

He does have a job. He’s always scheming to keep his position since his father is the kind that keeps his son threatened and insecure about his position. He reminds me of the king in Sister, I’ll Be Queen In This Life and the way he treats ML, Alfonso. Moreover, Oscar has had men doing his bidding since he was a kid. His strongest supporter though, is Carcel’s father, his maternal uncle. Cárcel’s father doesn’t know yet what kind of heart Oscar has. He will find out soon enough.

let’s all agree to disagree, ig. being a paranoid crown prince who schemes and has his goons do his bidding is not the same as carcel being an army lieutenant/captain in the novel.

the prince has no real obligations outside of being an accessory to the crown. he does not have any kind of substantial political sway because of his mother, and since he’s so focused on ines, is also refusing to secure the royal bloodline by having kids.

again, i think we are arguing about mostly semantics here; yes, he does have a job: being the prince. no, that is not a job that has any kind of substance. oscar, by virtue of being born into the royal family has a title. but the king does not consider him fit to succeed him, smth we know because oscar is paranoid abt there being a male bastard child out there whod be able to snatch the throne from him.

I did not respond to you so I’m not arguing with you. I simply agreed with the person who said he has a job. He participates in political meetings and has a say in policy and decisions. I don’t think Carcel’s father is supporting someone who is just sitting on his hands and doing nothing. The focus of the novel did not expand on the details of what Duke Valeztena, Duke Escalante, Duke Ihar, Duke Osorno and the other Duke does all day. That’s because its focus is Carcel and Ines’s romance. The story doesn’t even tell us what the empress does all day. Therefore, I’m not going to tell anyone that Oscar does nothing all day.

I’ll just add one last thing. Episode 78 showed the empress said this copied word for word from the speech bubbles:

if i came off as hostile i apologize, im not trying to pick fights. the only point im making here is that he is not actually allowed to make any meaningful political decisions (yet). his involvement in state affairs are only explicitly said to matter in the second timeline after marrying ines.

has he been involved in state affairs? yes. he has placed carcel in every battlefield he was able to. but that was mostly because of oscars grandfather who urged carcel (in this timeline) to.

an interest in state affairs does not equal a job (in my v humble opinion). he is a royal. royals dont hold jobs the way the rest of us do anyway. but him trying to protect his title as crown prince is not the same as being employed.

You don't really see rulers lead armies these days so he is doing his job. Oscar and his father never got the job to actually go to war. Their job is to send ppl to war. Carcel's family is the duchy and they in long line of working for the navy and having high position in the navy so it was normal for Carcel to follow his grandfather and probably his previous great grandfathers or whatever to join the navy to support their country. Carcel's dad is the rare one who don't like the brutework stuff and super noble and gentlemanly so Carcel's father is like the stereotypical noble who support the country and get power by sucking up to the royal family. His sister is the empress so he probably thinks helping his sister and Oscar would help his family, but Carcel's grandfather is the opposite. He hates the imperial family so he gets power from being a hero in the navy. He was so famous and loved by the ppl that no emperors were able to truly order his grandfather around. Carcel's grandfather told Carcel to join the navy to be free and that's what Carcel did.
