Any sincere critique of Seojin’s flaws is called hate in this comment section and then all flaws are called complex characteristics. It’s not complex to be an asshole. He’s been an asshole, since he was a kid, at least then he had the excuse of being a kid (18 years old) which you guys who call any critique of him just a blanket “Seojin hate” could hide behind, however, he is still an asshole so what does that mean now? Let me guess, it’s just the “complexity” of his character? He was older than Yoonhee and much less sheltered and naive, this is fact, you literally can’t refute this, and Yoonhee was straightforward, Seojin ran circles around him and used his feelings and affection, sexual and otherwise, to make himself feel better, regardless of how fucked his personality became because of his tragic past, this is still asshole behaviour. The only person setting their pride aside ever to be honest was the naive and sheltered Yoonhee, and Yoonhee was also an asshole, especially to Yuri, but he didn’t have the same scummy pretence of blaming all relationship issues on his significant others while never being honest about his feelings, dodging any questions of the surety of their relationship and downplaying it while taking in all the affection and love and giving no vulnerability or anything in return. Not to mention throwing Yoonhee’s vulnerability with his own feelings back in his face.
Reread the whole story and come to the conclusion that seojin is pretty much the reason for this relationship to not work. It is shown as yoonhee being weird and demanding weird things yet it is the exact opposite.
Seojin tells to yoonhee's face countless times that it isnt a serious relationship, he doesnt plan to do anything with yoonhee in the future. Countless times he runs away rather than make his feelings clear despite yoonhee giving him many chances. He literally breaks his heart at any chance when yoonhee is enduring so much to be with him.
Yes, yoonhee is not open to seojin either (especially with his body condition, the situation with god), but his reasons are because he is afraid to hurt seojin so he lets himself to be hurt. He is not happy about his own situation as well, but he knows that he simply cannot get out when there is a huge responsibility on him about being the next family head. He is trying to make seojin happy countless times despite getting his heart broken, only for seojin to hate him about it (especially his situation with his brother and the bully). Yoonhee is constantly fed ideas through yuri because he doesnt know how normal relationships work, yet he is also blamed for it as well. I honestly pity yoonhee a lot.
I think the most heartbreaking scene in this story was the time when they went to the sea and yoonhee wanted to go back home. Seojin knew if he said he didnt want to go back, yoonhee would disregard his own comfort to be with seojin in that moment. Seojin gave up on yoonhee's feelings in that scene fully knowing the scale, yet every time he kept using yoonhee's commitment to his house as his fault when they fought. He kept manipulating the situation to be yoonhee's fault when he was simply a coward.
We can see how precious yoonhee in the current timeline even though seojin thinks he is more twisted and colder than before. Yoonhee lived a whole life without knowing anything true, so it is refreshing to see him exploring his own life out of that house. I wish they could explore his drinking and smoking issue, what happened to him after seojin left. He seems very different meanwhile seojin didnt change at all.
I love this story a lot. It focuses on the relationship of two people but it is multi dimensional. We do love a good character writing.
