SA Garbage, Don’t Waste Your Time

Why do Korean authors hate consent so much? It’s almost impossible to find adult comics that don’t have blackmail, abuse, exploitation, coercion, or assault by the prospective or endgame “love interest”. It’s no wonder women are boycotting men in South Korea if this kind of mentality towards sexual conduct is common.
I’ve seen so many complex characters, interesting plotlines, and unique concepts completely ruined by this horrible shit.
Is there some secret curse that causes Korean authors to drop dead if they write a story without gratuitous SA and abuse?

I actually wonder about that. Sometimes, works from certain places reflect a bit of their culture. Like how Japanese mangas have a lot of beta males as protags coz, terrible as it is to say, they're targeting a certain demographic. Also, I've heard a lot of personal accounts of toxic experiences with men from Korea. The amount of red flag MLs from manhwas is astounding and honestly alarming. And I hate the excuse when people say it's just '*✧ fiction ✧*'.

Don’t forget “historically accurate” like ok bro it might be historically accurate, but if you think I’m not going to question why a story created by a modern person for the entertainment and enjoyment of people today has a ton of gratuitous abuse and sa in it, you’ve got another thing coming. Believe them when they tell us who they are

Fr, cause it is so normalised it's so concerning, every time I think manhwa has changed I get proven wrong. Both the stories that are horror or psychological and the ones that are cute romances have rape, blackmail, SA os some sort and it's really weird. What's even crazier to me is that the authors sometimes even include the effects of those experiences but they still let it go unaddressed.

And we can't forget how they keep inventing new universes and tropes that make sexual assault a lot more commonplace; omegaverse, subversive, guideverse, cakeverse seems to be on the rise too? I don't see why you would purposely create a world where rape is normal and not make it a dystopia but instead make it a cute romance????

I totally agree with everything you said, but what the fuck is cakeverse? I’m filled with both curiosity and dread.

I actually like Guideverse and Omegaverse when done well, and in my mind the setting is just an excuse to do what authors want. Plenty of them put nasty shit into standard settings. Excuses or not, they would’ve found a way to incorporate/normalize their twisted mentality. A weirdly high percentage of the Subverse comics I’ve read have actually dealt with previous trauma from sa and finding a healthier partner/mentality towards sexual desire. But then again I have a selective memory because any comics that glorify sa get immediately thrown in the trash pile both literally and mentally.

I went into Omegaverse cos I had a thing for necks and was fairly curious about mpreg back in the day. Wild were the days when that verse was filled with never ending SA-centered plots. It took a while until we actually got healthy omegaverse stories which is sad.

I agree with what was mentioned about authors jumping into verses and have SA as the foundation for a lot of the plot. It's so tiring to see tbh. I get that sex sells but it's not sex that's selling these. It's the rape. Plain and simple. If they want sex, it can be consensual but I guess SA is a magnet for readers and a huge fetish thing for a lot of people. Personally, I steer clear from a lot of popular BLs that has a lot of gratuitous SA coz they're depressing.

I was actually once told that I was so 'weak' for not being able to handle it. And I was all ???? Why is it bad for me not to like SA in the stories I read? How does my dislike for that equate to me not liking good stories? I couldn't understand =_=

I've gotten told that too it's crazy that people think I'm the problem for not wanting to continue stories that have rape in them.

I have seen some good subverse and omegaverse things but they're far and few between for me. Almost all the subverse stuff I've read don't dive into the aspect of consent and safe words which is weird considering how important it is in bdsm so I need to read what you're reading.

I wouldn't mind these stories so much if the mc didn't end up with the abusive piece of crap ml, cuz even in the stories where the fucked up shit is acknowledged and treated seriously they still end up together for some reason and it's so frustratingヽ(`Д´)ノ

    Exactly, it makes no sense

True. Not to mention MC that forgives the ex that raped them. Or rapists with sad backstories that are somehow obviously put in the story that explains why they are how they are. Even worse, written in a way that explains why MC forgives them which I feel does not make sense at all.

I think there’s also a cultural aspect since a lot of these stories come out of Japan and Korea which have lagging mentalities towards consent and women’s rights. They don’t treat it as serious as in the West, which had several movements since the eighties to bring awareness of the severity of sa, and importance of consent. I very much doubt American comics launched here would make it to publication with the same content.
I’ve noticed that in Omegaverse the omegas take on a feminine role in society and tend to reflect traditional struggles and treatment that women face. There’s kind of an entitlement of alphas towards omegas, and the belief that vulnerability is an invitation that reflects a lot of backwards “justifications” that men make when they mistreat women.
