i'm not sure, 'cause i'm gonna be honest i probably wasn't reading while paying that much attention and i also have a bad memory akjshdfh but i feel like he probably sold his company and decided to step down as president. Probably the company wasn't doing that well money wise? But i feel like the pressure also got to him and he enjoys working as a general manager more than as president. but i know nothing it's just an assumption
from what I understood, he founded the company and his staff from back then all left over time because they found him hard to work with and they had disagreements, though not because he’s bad at his job or a bad person. they just felt a lot of pressure because of how much he dedicated himself to the company, and many of them expressed they felt kinda bitter and inadequate by comparison etc etc., which you can see mirrored/perpetuated in the behavior of his subordinates in his new role in chapter 2. the board of directors, or what I’m assuming is the board (or something similar with all of the higher level management), told him they think it’s time for him to let someone else replace him who can essentially bring more experience to the role (but they really just want someone who can be easier to work with, who will be easier to influence and who won’t be so stubborn, and they don’t take him seriously for being young and not having much leadership experience other than as the founder and president of his own company. but this is just an excuse, more or less. people who have strong convictions and voice their opinions tend to not be as well liked in corporate settings, because conflict is really looked down upon and compromise is valued more than anything. they just get treated as annoying even though they might be right. internal politics is a huge part of corporate life). basically they are trying to force him out of his role, and for the good of the company, he makes the decision to step down. “if that’s what the people want, I guess I need to follow suit” kind of logic. they treat him like a nuisance, so over time he begins to see himself as a nuisance and a potential detriment to the company. so what I got from this is that he’s a genuinely caring person who gave up control over the thing he spent so much time and energy building, only because he believed it would be in the best interest of the company in the longterm to have someone else that people respect more and have less friction with as the president. him serving as the president for so long and being “controversial” kind of speaks to his merit, though, and to his decision-making skill. he’s made decisions that others presumably didn't agree with, but those decisions all led his company down the right path and it’s become successfully enough to have a lot of employees and multiple ranks of management. and now that it’s doing so well, it’s kind of outgrown him in a way because politics starts to become more of a factor in leading the company. in the real world, founders often step down after their company becomes successful, and this usually marks a new phase or era for the company, but they almost always stay on the board or keep a relatively large percentage of shares. they don’t typically demote themselves and become middle management. and him doing that (stepping so far down) shows that he has issues with his self-worth; he feels like he’s only valuable if he works hard, but him working himself to the bone really alienates people (not saying that makes total sense in general, but this is what’s depicted), and he feels even less valuable as a result. a sad cyclical situation. stuff like rumors and public opinion can cause people to feel a certain way about someone without knowing them, which is further alienating him from all the randos in his company he doesn’t work directly with. corporate culture is like a neverending circular game of telephone, but with judgements about people. he’s being subjected to that. even though it’s embarrassing and hard for him to be in a role where people take him even less seriously and discredit him and his hard work, he still does it because he wants to contribute to the company and he wants to do his best even if he’s no longer the one making the high level decisions. typically a successful founder & president of a company would move on to bigger and better things after stepping down and handing the reins over, and there would be a world of opportunities for them, but at this point he has so much self doubt, so little self esteem, and probably a good dose of imposter syndrome, so he isn’t really even considering that as an option for himself. he’s relegating himself to a lower position because he’s also still attached to the company and doesn’t want to fully part ways (even though he totally could!! there are people out there who would admire his tenacity, experience, and achievements, but he hasn’t been surrounded with those people at all. instead he’s surrounded by people who question his qualifications and decisions and discredit him as a person). sorry for the long ramble but I hope that helps!!
woah thank you do much for thiss!! i now get it TT those old randos trying to bring him down every chance they get ugh they suck. He is doing great at his job, that's is why i was so confused why they want him to step down. I forgot how corporate likes people who are easy to control to satisfy their ego
but why is he like being demoted? im not familiar with how corporate works so im confused why is he being replaced as the president, ik there are explanations in the manga but i still dont get it TT
