There is no plothole to that. The novel does explain it. Christianity is rl in the story and they regressed bc their predestined life fked up in their 1st life so anyone who got fk up got a redo. Ines kept regressing bc she's punished for committing suicide bc it's against her religion to do that.

stories like these always make me question the huge plot hole of the reincarnating / rebirth but i feel that this story is so deeply thought out that i can live with that missing answer lol
