To be honest, with or without control, Derrick is still an asshole. He would still blame Penelope and doubt her because that’s how he much hates wants to dominate her. If you don’t remember, he bought a bird that looks exactly the same as Penelope even the color and that was the time Yvonne hasn’t arrived yet. He wants to control Penelope and lock her up, straight up manipulating her life.
What sickens me, if Derrick was the male lead, people will honestly root for him. Ladies love seeing female characters get dominated by sexy men and forgive him when he snaps out of the mind control (again if he was the male lead scenario)

If Yvonne was the actual main character and it’s her POV wanting to get her body back, people going to hate Penelope for not understanding her (real Yvonne). Honestly, it’s a matter of perspective and roles. I recall a male lead who is very like Derrick but people forgave him because he’s male lead smh
This is me hating half of romance fantasy that most readers will love because toxic character is male lead and not side character
YOU GET ITTTT that's what pisses me off about the recent works under villainesses and isekaied FLs. it's become another venue for people to pick me and hate on other women while MLs who are just as toxic and sometimes even worse, get unlimited chances to redeem themselves.
it's so sad bc the genre started from liberating strong women from the stereotypes, but now it's become a 'badass woman' vs. 'the innocent, 'weak', woman'.
Morally gray side characters are doomed no matter what manhwa genre they’re in but once the personalities that morally gray side characters have get transferred to the main couple, they’ll get the green light
Derrick is a bitch but I’m so frustrated how male leads who‘s so similar to him gets forgiven easily. Maybe I can mention one, it’s the ML of the Abandoned Empress. I drop that shit of a story when I found out he gets a happy ending with the FL. Forgot his name but he was also brainwashed and tortures FL, she had a miscarriage and ML had an affair with the antagonist Readers forgive him because he was brainwashed. Bruh where’s the justice?!
