Kyose was the last name. Haruhito Kyose was the soilder boy's full name.
The other boy said 'Kyose' was his "grandfather on his mother's side" He was referring to Haruhito's father when he said that, and that means Kyose was his mother's maiden name, Haruhito had a sister.
So the boy at the end was a nephew.
