It's not actually the first time he has done this... If we remind about the time when Penelope was confined and crown prince was unconscious, he totally blamed Penelope without hearing a thing from her. That mf always pins every blame to Penelope. So, he being brainwashed is definitely not an excuse.. He has always been like this. Even if he wasn't brainwashed, I'm pretty sure the incident would turn out like this anyway.
