This is a bit dumb. There wasn't anything to set this up beforehand, it's completely out of nowhere and the tonal shift is really weird. Also the dad would have a million different ways to produce "a natural meeting" with Satoko and the police chief. "My sick daughter got lost!" "Someone tried to kill her!" Why would he, a supposedly doting and possessive father, put her in a situation, where she could have been sexually assaulted (and almost was!!!), when it would not only harm her, but destroy her marriage prospects. This feels like the author wanted to say "Aha, you all predicted the ending, because it was well planned out and made thematic sense, but I care more about surprising you, so here, look at this twist villain!!" What are you, modern Disney????

I don't think is far fetched, Satoko loved her father but it was only from her POV, the father not being as good as it seemed was still a possibility, specially in a rich family like Satoko's.

Same thought like bruh What made you think your plan will work to marry of you pitiful sick daughter? What if that nitobe guy didn't get to meet her in that brothel? What if she never ended up in any brothel? So many Astronomically huge plot holes

Maybe the actual plan was to send this rich guy unknowingly that the price was his girl.

If her illness is not known by this rich guy he would think oh this is my reward and gladly accept the "good" girl. Or if he knew the fact that she is ill, maybe he wanted status

But still there is a plot hole for me as well . Why choose this painful method while our girl was clearly was ready to go to death for the sake of her family? Even before everything she was willing to sacrifice his life and marry for convenience.. maybe the father wanted to keep his good father image?...

Why go through such an extreme ordeal to just keeping a good father's image? He could have made this "fateful meeting " as he called it by just sending them both on an errand ( ̄∇ ̄")

Agree. That doesn't make much sense, maybe he promised his soon to be son-in-law a heroic tale? I don't know ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ I guess we will see in the next chapter
