This is the biggest question. They were having conversations over what rich man she'll marry, the only thing that would make sense is if the father is crazy. Like she wasn't going to say no to marriage, it was her entire life purpose in that moment however now she found herself and a lover.

From the start (before kidnapping) Satoko already wanted to marry a man that his dad approves so why did her father choose such a ridiculous way instead of marrying his daughter to the man he wanted in the normal way?
