aren't they like highschool?, the ml here clearly is a very different character more leaning on 'well guarded boundaries ' type or 'closed off reserved person' type a thing it's likely out of character of him to be easily 'head over heels' for her and besides living all his life being dependent Im sure he can't change easily or rely on others easily the fl also said he has his own good sides too,,, it's also their first time dating so it may be clumsy the most important part is growing through their relationship together and supporting each other, as long as both of them are happy and feel safe around each other.
I hope you do get what I am pointing at it's just I've grown attached to the story so I wanna say my part, I also can't deny that you or 'prefer' that kind of stories cause I also like a story where ml is head over heels so I do get you but I hope you see my point about the ml

It’s true that they are teenagers and are immature an “selfish” (and that kurose has some emotional trauma) and it’s impossible to have a 180 change in his personality but he could show the same consideration that mugi have for him cause then she is just giving and what she’s receiving is crumbs and im like broo I wouldn’t want to see any of my girlfriends being treated like this.
