Idk about /happy ending/ since it's not done yet but there's this gut wrenching/ the world is unfair/this is not ok type of plot. You feel mad at her for her choices, but it's overshadowed by your pity Instead.

Read the comments before you start I suppose. The novel is out there and "complete" (slow updates on epilogue) but yea. It gets worse before it gets better if that's what you're looking for.
I read this several years ago and I don't think I can go back to it any time soon
