My friends in law also give their baby formula milk in their very first month because the mother breast can't produce any milk. The doctor (from what my friend tells me) said it's because the hormonal or something like that that caused the milk doesn't come out (since the mother also have baby blues and stressed out). And our thoughts is her baby too used to the sugar in the formula milk (formula milk in my country high in sugar so many professional doctors in my country doesn't recommended it for baby under 6 months) so then they are not used the bland taste of the milk. On other hand, my friend's in law just find the formula milk is easier and practical than hurting herself so she never give her baby that.
Kinda sad with her tho, because her husband didn't care about her and the baby.
Aah same even here it is not at all recommended to give formula but it was an urgency in mycase so had to give it...but yeah it is a bit sad, kind of selfish i believe because if your friend had the ability to feed should've done it cause later on life this all risk heath issues like diabetes or kidney issues because it causes pressure for the babies organ to digest and filter all that sugar!!
...myself too now suffer from diabetes ╥﹏╥
I dont know about the baby deny breastfeeding because people around me with babies never complain about their baby doesn't want the breastmilk, but I know how hurt it's for the Mom, especially their first months of breastfeeding because my friends tells me that. I'm glad I am a cool aunt that always ready to play with my friends baby whenever they need help or some alone time. I always babysitting at least two babies from two of my friends if they called me. Postpartum Mom really need support from their families and friends.
