this is an unpopular take lol. I'm kinda sick of people treating Ritsuka like a substitute for Yuki, heck most of this story is Maf realizing he LOVED yuki in the past but now he's IN LOVE with ritsuka for diff reasons. Yuki and maf just weren't right for each other, it would have been toxic. Yuki might have been a first love but Ritsuka is his soul mate
Ritsuka is not a substitute. Maf x Rit is a different relationship.
But my point is that, I wonder what Yuki and Maf relationship would have been like, if they resolved the misunderstanding. But I do understand that Maf is too reliant on Yuki. On,y when he's with Rit, that Maf finally became more reliant on himself.
It's just that, the way Maf's friends describe Yuki and Maf just sound interesting.

But ofcourse they would discribe yuki and maf with rose colored glasses cause yuki was their friend too and he died. I'm pretty sure their relationship had more divits than what they told ritsuka cause that argument was more like "the last straw" than what actually broke them. I have a feeling that even if yuki was alive and they resolved that particular misunderstanding, they still wouldn't be right for each other in the long run. Rit and Maf are less toxic and plenty interesting in their own way given how one has trauma and the other is learning to deal with someone who has trauma. But idk we are all entitled to our own opinions ig

i dont think he meant it like that, yuki was a guy who just thought he would survive like he would die and come back, described as if he was on a fine line, its clear that he must have been struggling. i feel its unfair to call them 'toxic' like how old were they? maf and rit have their grown years together while yuki and mafuyu went through their childhood and teen phase together. surely you know how teenage relationship is like? and the plenty interesting you describe wouldnt exist w/o yuki, maf is the mafuyu that rit likes because of yuki. i really dont think we can make the conlusion that mafuyu and yuki wouldnt have lasted
i can make the conclusion that they definitely wouldn't hve lasted just like you can assume that they might have. I don't deny that maf is who he is now because of yuki but i'm not talking about yuki, i'm talking about Ue. besides u can grow from being in a relationship with someone even if you break up (most of the time that's how it works). IN MY POV, yuki and maf would've ended up as good friends but they would be with other people that could handle them. At the end of the day, it's an ambiguous ending for a reason, lets just leave it at that

lool coming from me who had some intense relationship as a teen, we both really thought it was each other or no one, time can make people grow apart or grow closer, in their case, i hope in another life they get a lifetime of a love
How do I say this......like Ritsuka and Mafuyu is a wonderful ship. Their relationship is adorable and loveable, of course. But, even Mafuyu's friends describe Mafuyu and Yuki's relationship to be the perfect first love ever.
And reading from Yuki's perspective for a little, he's like the perfect imperfect dude, too. He's a great guy. It's more like, "it's such a shame that he died; imagine how wonderful their relationship would have been" kind of thing.
And a perfect first love isn't something you just witness even if you live long enough in a lifetime. No disrespect toward Ritsuka, of course. But I'd love to see just how amazing Mafuyu and Yuki's relationship would have been if Mafuyu is who he is now with Yuki.
But it's kind of ironic in a way? Because like I said, a perfect first love isn't something you just witness even if you live long enough in a lifetime. But, Mafuyu can only become more bold about what he wants because of what happened to Yuki.
