Oh I was thinking he got influenced by the dude with glasses because he seemed to be an awakened. And due to the mind control or maybe the manipulative actions of the glasses guy, he kys. If we look at it from mc's, pov I guess it could be chalked up to the fact that Lee sang hoon really wanted to surpass the mc based on his memories. But I don't think it's that surface level. So I placing my bets on the glasses dude. He also appears in the brown haired woman's flashback so that backs up my theory.
