I get that having a gentle giant is more uncommon and therefore interesting for the storyline than his reincarnated body but ppl r actually HATING That bit is ridiculous bc i feel like there should be more things to worry about in their relationship or the storyline than just him becoming an effeminate man.
I agree with you but I want to point out why I think some people are upset with this change. I’m not speaking on behalf of the ones who stubbornly only like muscular bottoms (y’all should read another story if that’s your main concern). Usually in these stories involving body swap, the original appearance is considered less conventionally attractive than the new appearance. The purpose of such trope is to show that the Male Lead is not shallow. But that doesn’t mean the author isn’t shallow. Take for instance, these common qualities:
*the face of the most beautiful being alive
*a virgin (in the case of Chinese transmigration or soul possession stories, a whole different can of worms that I can prob write an essay about)
*a lean body that has just the right amount of muscles at the right places but doesn’t appear bulky
*someone from a rich or influential family (usually to make the MC and ML be of equal status, which is why I have a love-hate relationship with villainess manhwa that use nobility as an excuse to chastise commoner behavior)
The audience initially gains interest in the story because it has a Main Character with an uncommon or unorthodox appearance, but then switches them into the conventional beauty standard. You can’t really complain because it’s still the same person. But it just leaves a sour taste in your mouth.
Now, the reason I’m okay with Abel’s appearance change is that his beauty is used as a comic relief (it’s very obvious, at least to me, that the author is making fun of this trope) and I’m sure his appearance serves a bigger purpose in the story than simply being a pretty boy (the green eyes blonde hair talk happened too often to not be a foreshadowing). That’s all.
I can't, the discrimination based on look is strong with this one. Hating on effeminate man, but watching bl for their standard of "masculine man". That's just borderline fetishizing. I watched all bl with muscles, bl with twinks, bl with normal built men. I find no problem in respecting all kind of bodies. BL is supposed to be a way to promote love is for everyone, yet the rejection is reaaaally strong with this one. Even if the change in body shape is crucial to the story line, they just can't fathom the existence of effeminate man in their twisted fantasy. Crazy
