Genuinely curious as to why are the Japanese so obsessed with non-con, be it in manga, or JAV.
I mean there’s so many ways they can write a story without non-con / rape or SA but no they need these plots for chara and story development (/TДT)/

Maybe because they may feel like their lives are forced to take a certain course, and they're often the victims of generational burdens and life goals. So, "non-con" maybe a way of them releasing their frustrations on their situations or it's just a kink and there is a lot of masochists

That’s actually unhealthy. Seeing how the history of yaoi who is infamous of themes of rape, SA, harassment still haven’t improved shows how these authors normalize self degradation and how they ignored dealing with such unhealthy issues. It sucks when their mindset didn’t even change over the course of history and now the audience make it seem tolerable because of how much they’ve been exposed to this kind of theme

Yea, well Japan has never been known for its "healthy boundaries" or mental health practices. They also have extrema censorship onto of that in regards to sexual content... Soo, it's weird odd how their mentality is.

Most of the Asian countries go though this generation burden and life goals that you mentioned, but most don’t release such kind of works. And if we look at the history, the Japanese imperial army were known for their inhumane practices and brutality, raping women, children alike, torturing the civilians and such. And also saw in an yt video that they don’t view going to sex workers after marriage is in any form cheating but if the women does so, it considered one.

everyones explanation above is valid but it's lowkey sometimes just because they have rape fantasies and kinks esp in hentai/smut. the author here even draws it so it looks like the uke is enjoying the forcefulness (not a good mindset to have ik). it's mostly a kink thing but also sometimes lazy writing.

Seconding this. Like ciago said, everyone's thoughts are valid but, being native myself... I can resoundly say, it's mostly just a kink thing, and people are very open and accepting of any fictional kink. They also like consuming more of the same thing. I really think it's not that deep. There's a lot of different kinks, and it's not like everyone is into rape or ntr or whatever, but it's just the JP creative community produces a LOT of any content, not just non-con. So even though it seems like there's lots of manga with non-con, in actuality, the ratio is still there's more normal content than non-con. (Except for doujins, bc sex sells.)
