See this was more censored and empathetic towards Cesare than in the novel. I don't remember the backflashes or any deal that Cesare had made to keep Ruby out of the orphanage. Moreover, I remember it being much more...brutal. Like the other commenter said before. By the end Ruby was covered in shards of glass and couldn't see because of the blood from the glass wounds on her face. Which again is pretty triggering and was very violent so I understand censorship in that area, but it really shuts Freya up and the rest of them too because they understand finally. Not that what he did wasn't also terrible in the manhwa version. I think I'm just really confused by the flashbacks, that's a little.....idk vibe a bit different. Cesare kind of shows his true colors and his jealousy and it is much worse than depicted here.

I agree the novel already had a bit of problems with going more in depth with the characters but I feel like it’s a huge problem in the manhwa I feel like certain scenes, especially this one had little to no dialogue and depth it wasn’t as impactful as it was in the Novel, which is actually disappointing since this is actually a very important scene. I feel like they’re kind of rushing everything, and it was already not the best ending in the novel so I’m hoping they don’t rush it even more

I read some other comments and it makes sense for them to make things more PG for a wider audience. Like these people probs don't get paid enough anyway so I won't be too upset, its just the source material is already a bit more mature so censoring it kinda washes away the abuse Ruby endured which is pretty integral to the story idk.

Exactly, I immediately picked up on the flashbacks and knew that it was an attempt to make us empathize with him a bit? They even made it out to be that his assault on Ruby was just in the heat of the moment when in the novel he intended to inflict pain onto her?

No you explained it exactly, would be fine with the censorship if it wasn't literally changing the important parts of the scene. Especially how it seemed like in the heat of the moment because she was egging him on. She was in the novel too, but his reaction was what she expected for him to completely lash out. When she taunts him about being inferior, he reacted in rage (because he feels inferior and is upset that the person he wants to control is acting against him). Here it feels like he's losing it cause Ruby doesn't understand "all that he has done for her" and is reacting because she doesn't understand. The importance is in the intent like you said, in the novel he MEANT to inflict pain, here it seems almost accidental. Which is why when everyone witnesses the aftermath its so shocking. I think the original point is important because there shouldn't be sympathy for this character, he's an abuser. Backtracking on that point is a bit reductive to Ruby's story and honestly leaves a bad taste in my mouth especially with all the abusive tactics he uses (physical abuse, manipulation, isolation, and the coercion of dependency). Literally right before he said "No one will really love you, it's just us". Like, how are you going to make someone so blatantly abusive and then backtrack in the most important scene? Also its just a pin drop moment in the story. Literally no one understands her, and this scene she purposely lays herself out bare. She's always been hiding and mistrustful of everyone around (which valid) but now she realized she loves Izek and wants to embrace that. She purposely made sure that she was seen leaving with Cesare AND made sure Freya saw her because she knew she would tell Izek. This was a plot that she orchestrated, and she knew that they (and especially Izek) would find her and finally put the pieces together.
