Oh 100% illegal, for sure. (Although I do legally own the raws for this but that's beside the point). And yet here we are, giving this site tons of ad revenue for stolen content. And the reading comprehension comment was directed towards them thinking it's multiple translators fighting.

In defense of scanlators: 1st all of them buy the raws with their own money. 2nd, it takes time and effort (a lot) to translate. 3rd, they share because they enjoy the manga and want others to enjoy them, too, but they usually upload on their own sites (for which they pay to maintain) or to bato or Mdex which are not really aggregator sites like Mgo. 4th, almost all of them remove their work or stop scanlating when official English release comes out.

Yes, bots scrape the Internet and upload their work without permission but tbh, their translations don't significantly impact authors unless they officially release in English.

Finally, why are these comments rude and entitled, especially when there's an explanation in chp 4? At least thank them for giving us something to read. SMH, I'm muting this convo now - too toxic

Manga scanlation in my opinion is a great thing, it's making something available for a larger audience that previously wouldn't have known about it. I would've never read 99% of the mangas I now love if it weren't for scanlations, since I can't speak japanese, Korean or chinese. I'm pretty sure it's the same for most of the people here. Now I can support the authors and buy my favorite mangas when they come out licenced in English, and it's because people took the initiative of translating it to a language I'm able to understand. Even if it's illegal, I feel like authors can benefit from it. (Ofc I am totally against simply reuploading official english translations, specially if the comic is available for free on other websites)

don't get me wrong i do love scanlation too otherwise i wouldn't be on here esp since it's basically impossible to buy manga in my country unless it's really popular
and i do appreciate translators and ik how time consuming it is to put out good quality translations but i still wanted to point out that it's still illegal lol

God no, that's a terrible idea. I'd never take money for uploading. That's a legal hellhole and defeats the whole point. The thing is, bto (initially) and dex are made for scanlators. When they're reuploaded elsewhere by bots, you take away any modicum of control over something we're taking the legal risk to do. And if stories get licensed and official English versions are released, we can only take down what we uploaded. These sites make way too much money and don't care enough to do that.

I beg to disagree. Anime fansubs and manga scanlators only do works that are not English translated. I used to know fansub groups and manga scanlators and they all stop our work once they are licensed. They also contribute to the original work getting noticed in US thereby giving them official (paid) licenses.

And scanlators for the most part understand that bots in this day and age will steal their work just as legal sites do. I subscribe to several legit sites for anime and manga/light novels but I like comments here - for the most part, and read those that are not officially translated in English. I love dex bec that's where scanlators really post their sites (although some scanlators actually post yaoi stuff here, too).

What irks them (and me) more than bot are the entitled complaints by readers in aggregator sites like this one. The worst people though are the ones who post on social media and stupidly tag the authors (I mean wtf ).
