If I'm going to say that someone is wrong I want to understand and be able to precisely articulate exactly how and why they are wrong, if they are wrong. For me to do that I need to thoroughly understand their perspective and reasoning. Besides, doing this type of exercise helps me understand my own perspectives better and, if anything, solidifies them further.
