I think this is the way of the author saying, hes free, he isnt trapped anymore. Before the dude was kidnapped and raped for pearls because they are valuable. However now that hes free from that dark past of his he has no more use for being marked “valuable” no need for him to be only seen for his pearls and forget hes also a human being. thats my interpretation (〜￣△￣)〜
