Hm i enjoyed this quite a lot but it does feel a bit hollow. It doesn't feel like there's any real romantic tension between Ennis and Enoch other than the "we shouldn't" bit, but even that feels a bit off because it doesn't feel like Ennis has a "real" reason to distance herself. She could have had plenty of reason! Like her trauma with Ryan. But she's far too confident dealing with him, and she doesn't have any negative emotions towards Enoch, so that doesn't really work.

The plot also kinda feels like it's just going through the motions somehow. Like, the stakes are pretty high, but the energy and emotions involved don't match them, so we don't really get much depth in the story. The characters feel a bit empty too. Even when we see Ennis go through hell, I don't really connect to her emotionally - I guess partially because Enoch is always there to pick her up, and I feel like as supportive as he is, there are things he would be bound not to understand. And it feels like their relationship is extermely smooth-sailing, while I personally would have liked it if they started out less perfect and were able to grow together.

But ultimately I guess this is an empowerment fantasy above anything else.
So all in all it was a little bit lacking in substance for me. But still an enjoyable read.
