1. is he is forced to do so due to the curranty leaders feeling he is a threat and want to stop before he gets more support creating a civil war that ends with him and his supporters being the only left. 2.the leaders actually find him better then him and aren't prideful little shits and give it to either slowly by giving him more land or out right handing the title of emperor to him 3.is a mix of above with it them originally planning to give it to him but either though an inner faction or out of country influence end up killing those who would give it to him without a fight via assassinations and end up pinning them on him sparking a civil war.
