Karhan was an unplanned pregnancy as his father who was in love with another person and had to marry Rebecca (Karhan’s mom) for political reasons when he becomes the duke in place of his older brother who dies, Rebecca falls in love with him but the duke isn’t interested in her. She hopes that it changes after she becomes pregnant but after the first son(Blair- karhan’s older brother) is born duke (father) says to Rebecca that there is no more need for him to sleep with her as they have the heir. Rebecca resolves to fulfil her duties as a duchess but one drunken night the duke mistakes Rebecca as his past lover and sleeps with her conceiving Karhan. The duke isn’t interested in anything pertaining to his family just fulfilling his role and only paying enough attention to Blair as he is the successor. Initially Rebecca loves Karhan as his eyes do resemble hers and she decides to love him as her son. Now comes Blair the sociopathic child who cannot take it that his mother is more attentive towards Karhan and pulls some shit (like stealing his mother’s stuff and blaming it on Karhan, breaking things and blaming it on Karhan, thorwoing away the letters Karhan writes to his mom asking what he needs to change so she will love him as before and finally killing Karhan’s pet bird and leaving its carcass on the mother’s dresser. While Rebecca is reeling at the things she assumes that Karhan did Blair steps in as a kind and attentive son stealing her love. Rebecca decides that Karhan resembles his father more and turns away from Karhan and blaming him for everything. Finally Blair realises that Karhan is much more smart than he is and if he is given proper lessons he will outshine him so he also starts oppressing him ( locking him in a barn all night which gives Karhan trauma to sleep in a dark space… hence the reason why he buys the music box in the first chapter. He always leaves a music box or a lamp at night…) these and more are the reason why he sort of volunteers to go to the battlefield. Blair and their family are also behind the unsavoury rumours about Karhan so as to make it easy to oust him when eldest POS is back from his exile…..

He flees abroad because he kills the only son of count during one of their secret drug parties (he insists that it was an accident although he just lost his temper as usual and Rebecca also doesn’t believe that her gentle son could intentionally hurt someone) but the count persistently hunts down for him and any witness so he could bring Blair to trial but the ducal family (specifically the mom) makes a deal to pay huge remuneration and Blair hides out while they can put together the money to pay the count. This is when they basically order Karhan to come back from battle as a temporary heir. They make sure not to give him any succession lesion and let vicious rumours spread about him so they can remove him as soon as Blair comes back.

And now back to present where lilia and Karhan are in a contract to help each to other to break off their respective engagements…. And as probably most people guessed the person who saved Lilia is also Karhan (≧∀≦)….which comes out later when he is goes to the conflict zone for their dukedom to prove that he is a contending as the heir.
With Richard being is d***wad and blurting out the truth…. Karhan comes clean about his situation and lilia proposes to cancel their contract and that she is going to sponsor him so he can rightfully take over the duchy as the heir. And our munchkin bear literally breezes through the lessons in just a few months. During this the bolden family get to learn about him more and also get an inkling about Karhan’ s situation… man the scene when Karhan comes clean about his family and him. The bolden family literally ask him to move in to their house and they will be family ….. ╥﹏╥….. again I cried so much during that episode…. The boldens practically adopt and support him completely ……helping him shed the image from the rumours and establish himself as a proper heir. The entire family becomes completely attached and mama bloden becomes his mentor for sword, while heinley takes classes about imperial paperwork and other administrative work. They get an entire banner and instruments to support Karhan in the sword tournament.. (▰˘◡˘▰)… so wholesome and healing …that entire arc where Karhan finally accepts that he too deserves love …… ╥﹏╥….. my pillow was drenched with tears and snot

Richard’s end is rather cathartic…. Lilia uses his mistresses to set up an ambush at a ball and completely tarnishes his reputation and he ends up being a laughing stock of the society forcing him to not to step out and then she targets their family. Heinley decides to quit his job and advertise all the corruption of marquis as the harassment he faces gets beyond control. Karhan ends up overhearing this when heinley comes home drunk one day and he makes a deal with his father that he will go to conflict zone of the duchy in summer to deal with the ongoing conflict if he helps heinley…. So the duke steps in and reprimands the marquis. Heinley finds out about this when he goes to work next to submit his resignation.. he is thankful that Karhan helped him and goes to thank him to which our teddy bear says it’s expected as he is Lilia’s brother… heinley does submit the proof of marquis corruption to court but there isn’t much consequence because the crown princess steps in to help the marquis as he is her uncle. When Lilia finds out that heinley has been harassed at work she is out for blood… so she recruits a con artist to scam the marquisate as they are financially struggling. The con man makes them invest everything in the business and flees which is revealed during an imperial banquet. The marquis disowns Richard since they might end up selling their historic mansion just to settle the debt… of course Richard being a short sighted fool (╬￣皿￣)凸thinks that he can blackmail blodens by kidnapping lilia and scaring her…. and tusi was actually during the final match of Karhan’ s tournament which she misses because of the asshat…but Karhan literally runs through all the nearby alleys from where she was kidnapped and finds her before the capital gaurd could.(๑•ㅂ•)و✧….
They kind of circle around each other on how to confess to each other ..that mama bloden notices first although the entire family is still under the misconception that they fell in loves at first sight..which they do come out later after they confess their feelings for each other…Karhan confesses first Iirc after the kidnapping incident…. ⁄(⁄ ⁄·⁄ω⁄·⁄ ⁄)⁄
