The entire string has many notes as you shift your hand position, so you could theoretically play a song on a single string. Also if you adjust the tuning of the string throughout the playing you could probably hit more notes. It’s more so the execution that would have to be perfect but…. It’s possible actually. There’s even an instrument in my country like that(like violin but only with 1 string) called “ek tara”. It’s pretty rare now days but was used all the time in nineteens for folk songs here.
