She knew her son would be fine (he's a grown ass adult!!!), while the children (are orphans?!!!) are vulnerable.
I think they meant when the son was still a child. In the sons eyes, it appeared that his mother used preferential treatment for the orphans, neglecting any and all of his small wishes to cater for their. i.e. A private, personal celebration of his achievements just between him and his Mum.
he wasn’t always an adult ? he was a child just like those orphans too. it’s clear that even when she died, she never gave much thought to her child. all she wanted was for her son to care for her orphanage. there’s this saying in my culture that said “before you take care of someone else’s child, take care of yours first”.
Till the end .... She only "cared" for the children...no wishes for her own son...
