Okay so apparently many Japanese mobile holders have policies that tie phone numbers to a specific device, so when a number is changed, it is also necessary to change the phone as well. Hope that helps ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶

Japan doesn’t know sim cards??? Like, change your phone, but you keep your number and stuff even if you lose backup
I’ve seen this in many other mangas too, characters change the actual phone to change numbers
