It's been a few years since I read this manga and no matter how much the top comments here insist that Rio doesn't actually have any feelings for Kido, I still can't believe it, lol.
I think the mangaka did a great job at writing the characters. They are complex and have many layers, but ultimately they are all very unlikeable. Well written doesn't always equate to likeability.
I also hate how manipulative Rio truly is. It's like Kuzumi is the only one who is one-sidedly putting effort into maintaining their relationship and I hate that the most. It's so sad to always have to make the first initiative in your relationship and your partner is so god damn passive.
Sure, the last line Rio says could just be strictly interpreted as him wanting to hold onto Kido as a friend only, but I still feel like that line ruined a lot of development this series was going for THREE whole books.
