That's 100% the translators choice, you don't use pronouns the same way when you speak in japanese so you can't pull any conclusions from that
I personally think the reason they chose to use they/them in that scene is partly cause the sister still can't quite accept Renris gender
this bl is based off a trans song , therefore renri is trans male, and it's like @charmcloak said , about using they/them prns.
If that was the case, ep. 4 wouldn't have much sense. Renri says not to box them into man/women.

It's not off pronouns, it's based on the content itself. It's very clear they're some flavor of non binary, otherwise why would a trans man not want to be called a man?
omg this what i was saying!! its obvious renri wants to be seen as renri themself and nothing else, not a boy not a girl but just renri being renri and is close to being non binary
He does he simply says to not see him as his gender but who he is. Basically saying to not just see him as a transmasc but renri. Honestly u can still see it how u want but I def feel that was the intention
