Man, people are really uncharitable to Chaiyachet huh. Him turning into a tyrant was something that never should have happened, and it's horrifying, but I understand why it did turn out that way. Just a reminder that Chet was a CHILD who hasn't had a single person other than his brother on his side for most of his life, and Kosol has also done very little to assure Chet that he actually cares for him. From not reassuring Chet that he wants to keep him alive, to barely giving him any trust and actually at points disrupting Chet's plans to do good and yelling at him that he's stupid instead of explaining a single thing. Whenever something went wrong, Chet took all the blame, and Kosol never even considered himself wrong until perhaps the very end, and even then, he still went behind Chet's AND Woradet's back to concoct a violent plan that no one ever wanted. He never once sat down with Chet and tried to actively work with him or make him see why his ideas weren't going to work out and what could instead. So Chet did what he could with the limited information he had, and very understandably failed. We've actually seen that Chet is really smart and just lacks experience and support. If people had worked with him, things might have turned out so much different. He really just wanted his brother and to not be hated. And at times he showed that vulnerability to Kosol, but what did Kosol do? Push him away. Tell him to sit still and not do anything because he's supposedly useless.
That isn't to say Chet is completely free from blame either. But I don't think it's fair to call him stupid and selfish when he's a child who only ever had some of his needs met during a very brief period of his life and then never again until Woradet and Ched entered the picture.
Of course, Kosol sacrificed a lot to protect Chet. He's been through horrifying trauma. But it also isn't Chet's fault that he did those things for his sake. It also isn't Chet's fault that Kosol's concubines were killed. I feel for Kosol too, what he went through is horrifying, and it's understandable that he is the way he is too.
But let's not kid ourselves. It's their stupid goddamn father and the system they were born into that are the most at fault here.
