It looks like the author is trying to connect them to Greek mythology. So they’re not really vampires, maybe closer to immortal beings that happen to need/drink blood.

also I'm lost, WHY couldn't they just put Megi in the sunlight??? Does it not...work like that for all of them? What's with the your highness thing, I gotta reread this again to probably pick up everything as a whole. My brain hurts.
