Brett holds an important position in the fraternity, responsible for handling issues and events. With Nathan, the fraternity president and the ringleader of the bullying, now dead, it’s hard not to think that the responsibility might fall on Brett, one of the two targets of Rex’s attacks. I might even say Rex harbors more resentment towards Brett than he ever did towards Nathan…
The truth is, Hayden getting shot was really bad, but luckily it hit his shoulder, so he’ll be fine; hopefully, there won’t be any lasting consequences that heavily affect him. Now let’s talk about Brett and his situation. Brett comes from a wealthy family; although he’s surrounded by people he doesn’t like, he has privileges, passions, and a partner he currently cares about deeply. Overall, Season 1 shows Brett as quite happy, despite some troublesome issues, but he’s completely fine, in contrast to Hayden, who is in the process of getting better thanks to his interactions with Brett.
And then the ending of Season 1 suddenly hits Brett hard. Why do I always feel sorry for Brett, especially after the Season 1 ending? Imagine throwing a party to celebrate winning your final rugby game on the school field, with someone you care about, and finally having a truly relaxing moment together, only for it to end in tragedy. Witnessing what could likely be an old friend getting shot in the head right next to you, almost getting shot yourself in your own house, and then the person you care about getting hurt while protecting you??? Brett is a strong and positive character, which is why I admire him, but it’s hard to imagine him being normal after all this. What’s worse, the author has emphasized quite a bit how Brett tends to downplay his own pain. He always laughs things off when others worry about him, so I’m afraid Brett will hide everything and push Hayden away even more…
