Thank you for putting into words what I'm thinking... few Yaoi with an interesting story now don't contain rape..it's as if it's a kind of baptism... ( ̄∇ ̄")
as if in real life if it didn't happen we'd all react like that, throwing ourselves into the arms of the man who raped us and they lived happily ever after ??? Mannnn

I think the biggest problem is that while the west is going through this amazing era of consent culture, the East is still stuck in the 90s with much of its media. So we're over here championing emphatic yeses while they still think romance is pushing someone against a wall and passionately kissing them. Sure that can be nice in certain scenarios but it's always more comfortable for all involved if everyone is on the same page. I was born in the 80s so I lived through this change and it's a really big one; it changes your entire outlook on intimacy as a whole.
Now when we get to more porn territories, a lot of people like rape in porn because it's become super fantastically and those who do like the idea of being pushed up against a wall are more likely to fantasize about being in a rape/rape-like scenario and are more likely to be turned on by that. They likely don't want it for real and they probably don't even want to remember they're into it when not horny, but it still gets them hot and bothered because there is passion in it. Negative passion (rape/abuse/assault/etc.) is still passion.
Anyway, I'm not the biggest fan of rape in my yaoi, but if the story is interesting enough, and it's not supposed to be done “lovingly” (unless they both consent ahead of time and it role-playing any there is aftercare) I will read through it.
If you didn't like the unnecessary rape here, I highly suggest you stay far far away from Profundis. I was raging like a madwoman over the completely unnecessary rape and the absolutely unhinged way the mc reacts to it.

Yes, I definitely agree with everything you said. Honestly, it's unfortunate to say, but thanks to yaoi I feel that have gotten pretty desensitized to rape in porn as well, it doesn't mean I don't feel bad for the characters and their situation.... But it's hard not to disassociate myself when reading these type of stories, otherwise, I'd go mad. Even the line between consent and rape has gotten almost invisible now.... Normally, I don't comment/rant about rape in these type of stories because what's the point? My little voice isn't going to change anything. So, I've gotten used to how overused it is nowadays, I would just roll my eyes and think how unoriginal the writer is, but sometimes if it's plain laziness. But, sometimes you just can't help but say out loud the obvious you know? Profundis sounds curious but I bid your warning and avoid it simply because I know beforehand that it has unnecessary rape.
They just can't help themselves uh? It must be a cultural thing, otherwise how do you explain that "rape" comics are the top demand in Japanese and Korean market? Even true crime documentaries about these countries are just unimaginablly mind-boggling. I'm not saying all Japanese and Koreans are fucked up... just some seeds for thoughts. Even when it makes no sense, they still find a random reason to introduce rape in a storyline. How are you going to go from a whole "self-reflection" monologue about hurting the MC and then the next thing that came out of your mouth is "I'm going to fuck you" aka "I'm going to rape you"? Like come on. I do understand why the ML is doing it but is that even necessary? Of all the other methods to scare someone and make them stay away from your "dangerous" lifestyle, it seems to me "rape" should not even be on the list. Especially for someone who claims he cares for the MC.
