How did they expect people to believe a 6-year-old would intentionally poison a water source?

For real, like that's first grade still learning to to read properly. And how would a 6 year old know how to make a poison that doctors could even tell was poison?

It seems impossible, but in the era where noble’s lead the commoners they can be easily fool. Like the “rich are smart and they know best, while the commoners are stupid because they're poor” something.

People in this type of era lack the ability to use common sense or to think outside of what's suppose to be normal.

Just like the Salem Witch trials....they thought any intelligent or attractive women, were witches AND LITERALLY SLAUGHTERED WOMEN OF ALL AGES in order to keep them humble and stupid and obedient because a smart women were considered a threat to men. And it wasn't really hard to convince the common folk of this because commoners weren't allow to educate themselves because education was strictly for the wealthy. Ya can't really deny something is true or false if you're illiterate and they relyed heavily of superstitions to be the judge of a person. LITERALLY THE ERA OF NO COMMON SENSE.
