It's true. It isn't grooming so much as trying to change their fate. In the original timeline she got married off to Seigram whose King was younger than her. He taught he what it was like not to be treated like shit 24/7. She was happy and loved the Kingdom and her husband. Though her husband died young. Now that she is in the past she is trying to cure him and marry him. Things in this timeline seem weird though and it isn't completely because of the butterfly effect
You are so right, maybe it’s bad translation, but the tendency to « raise « people in a pygmalion way is a disaster nowadays. That being said said, all comments are right. She never tries to influence or change him, she’s just truly searching for a cure for him, doing so she has to confront a truly evil empress.
