I would understand point A if it had any impact on real life but nah point B is just- maybe it's because I don't like children and that's why I read yaoi- Like It's straight up reason why I don't read hetero, I dont want pregnant people what But people are free to have option of liking this of course.
I'm actually surprised to find out that some people read yaoi to avoid children/pregnancy tropes. Never thought of yaoi that way. I've always welcomed mpreg/omegaverse as a silly addition. But I get it that its not everyone's cup of tea since as a person who can get pregnant, I also don't like something scary as getting pregnant to be romanticized. But I switch off that part of me that gets icked because cmon I just want to read juicy plots and men fucking like rabbits. It's kinky and it's weird, but it's fiction. I think its the feral animalistic urge to possess and breed that's driving some readers wild but to those who didn't like that, hopefully yall enjoyed the non-mpreg parts still!!
From personal experience, most yaoi are hypersexualized and fetishized, catering towards the fantasies of majority of their female audience (and the rest are more exploratory of BL and its intricacies in relation to the real world). But it does make u wonder how we even got mpreg. Was pregnancy really part of the audience demand or was it just a silly mistake?
I encountered omegaverse/mpreg tropes around the 2010s and at first it sounded blasphemous for a guy to get knocked up but it got me interested in a new dynamic+trope in BL literature. Some stories range from wholesome to tragic and, to me, it just added another obstacle in BL plots (besides homophobia and sexism). But some can be a hit or a miss when using mpreg as a plot driving obstacle. But what really gets the crowd going from what I've observed are: 1) Hot possessive sex 2) Wholesome moments 3) Cute offspring 4) Loving and caring seme
In contrast, my personal peeves are: 1) overromantization of the idea of pregnancy 2) uke's losing their career/autonomy 3) pregnancy not accurately depicted. It's not a perfect trope but it does blend really well with kinks such as breeding and feral. If those kinks are not your type, mpreg does lose it's charm.
However, you could say that mpreg is unnecessary. That you can still have hot possessive sex without pregnancy in the mix. Which is true, most yaoi do fine without it. But some stories would lack some sort of completion without mpreg. It also scratches that animalistic urge to have an offspring, for their genes to carry on to another generation and to see something have come to fruition is just rewarding. But usually we thrive on the breeding kink part because idk the sex is just superb for some reason.
Overall, it's just our caveman brain. It can be depraved to want to see a guy get knocked up because even I don't want to be knocked up (hell no). But it's nice to see that, even if it's just in fiction, a BL couple becoming a loving family, because I don't see a lot of happy endings in real life, where the father stays faithful and loving or the parents are supportive and accepting unlike in mpreg BLs. So yeah, it's fucking hawt.
gosh, mpreg shouldn't even exist, that's what hetero is for, this one is supposed to be safe from that
