As someone who grew up watching and going to race car races, accidents are no joke. And driving a formula car with open-wheels just makes it even more of a death trap, at least in a normal stock car it's covered and has more safety measures (besides doors... the only way in and out is the window holes...). So his head will definitely have damage even with the helmet. I'm agreeing with the memory loss theories, though tbh if this was irl it'd def be a tbi and it'd be much worse than memory loss imo.
