Sorry not a manga but you should really read Diana Wynne Jones' book
Someone recommended a manga called 'Mushisi' to me a while ago, I haven't read it all yet, but it might be similar to the description of what you're looking for.
I only know the korean movie adaptaion, but it is based of a manga called Little Forest. The movie is so calm and comforting and I assume the manga is the same or similar. The movie gives me a lot pf ghibli vibes so maybe that is something to check out ^^
