If you read it, you would understand that Estevan crowned Mabel as Empress FOR PROTECTION and that he gave Oscar the choice to go through with it or not. He was completely prepared to find another way if Oscar actually wanted to be Emperor. Also, Oscar explicitly expressed his desire to be a knight instead. He is not showing favoritism.
I disagree. Loving your child doesn’t change the fact that you can be a bad parent. Intentions ≠ Actions. It’s not an excuse. When he was preparing to be an emperor, her being “tough” on him was borderline abuse. Even Mabel hated them for it.
Real life examples:
Parents who pressure their kids into studying to the point kids commit suicides. They do it cause they want their kids to have good future, tough parenting out of love, right? Does it change the fact that it’s abuse and they are bad parents for doing it? No, it doesn’t.
Sorry, but I don’t buy the whole “tough” parenting nonsense. She’s an awful mother, Estevan saw his son being mistreated and stood by it. If he thought her intentions were good then he should’ve told her to go about it in a different way. Be honest, do u think he would allow someone treat Mabel the way Oscar was treated? To prepare her for the throne? I don’t think so.
Yeah. I really disagree with the other person saying that he loves them equally. The only time he showed him affection was when he asked for his opinion on the emperor issue. Otherwise, it’s just “Mabel this”, “Mabel that”. I know manhwas who have fathers be equal towards their children if u want tho?
The best father I’ve read about is in “Adopted by a Murderous Duke Family”, he’s ready to sacrifice himself for his son and he adopts FL and from get-go treats her like his child. If I remember correctly
“The Villains’ Favorite Is Me” is similar, I think father loved his son but his son didn’t like him much. Also, “I'm the Heiress of a Villainous Household” has FL as kinda adopted daughter in a way (not exactly but she’s treated that way) and his biological daughter and son that he seems to care about a lot too. And in “It’s My First Time Being Loved” it has both mother and father and both absolutely adore all their children.
I came here from a tik tok about the favoritism in this manhwa and I just wanted to know, the father is trash right? And is it clearly unfair how Oscar, who has been working hard his whole life, is dismissed from his father? Should ‘Estevan’ even qualify to be called a father or trash that can’t love his children the same?
