I'd say it was more normalized before
On the contrary, now is more criticized so the content is been toning down, people are more aware now on abuse, power imbalance, infantilization and pedophilia, just notice how they comment on those topics under every bl and even go as far as to comment on the subject under the authors social media. Before almost no one commented about it or breached the parasocial relationship to tell authors about it like today. Also not many people used to read manga, manhwa or manhua in comparison to now, much less bl, people just recognized the work as fiction and didn't dwell too much on it, now is more popular and seen as cool to read manga and watch anime, so pedo topic is been criticized even in YouTube channels.
Pedophilia is very common in manga, mangago used to upload more bl manga than manhwa, but from a couple of years back it's been uploading mostly manhwa, and manhwa is more about infatilization of adults than pedophilia so some people kind of don't catch on it.
Sorry for the rant by the way, I just find it very interesting how far social media has brought those topics regarding bl, people are so much more aware now than ever and that is fantastic.
Nah its okay, and you totally summed up everything I've observed over the few years and I agree with infantilization being common in manhwas and pedophilia in mangas. It's crazy rereading some yaoi classics and remembering that a lot of them is between an adult and a child/teen. Don't get me started on the amount of incest lol. Myreadingmanga still has a lot of shota but not as much as before.
That said, I still miss seeing translated manga here.
