It's like we began the story with the protagonists having already achieved the goal of the main book. It's almost like a sequel. I love it so much! It makes me wonder how many BL couples that start off like them and have the same dynamics would have realistically run into trouble once past the initial honeymoon stage after the angst.

Exactly! Many hate on the main character for being the way he is, but I think this is a normal development of a relationship. You start to take your partner for granted and don't see the faults in behaving selfish until a big boom happens. It counts on what you will make after the big boom - is he gonna change or not.

I love how the MC is kinda dense too, since the moment the ML started to outline his flaws I realized he was being closely observed. Plus, it's the ML's fault too, for enabling him for so long imo

Absolutely yes to the enabling! Cause rarely is it just one persons fault, and sure MC is being selfish, but ML being so passive and letting things slide of all’s a big problem and it was both that caused the problems.

Imagine being unable to say anything for 5 years...maybe the ML never felt like his partner's equal

Maybe he was invested in his partner but he didn't see any reciprocity from the MC's part.
