That is why I referenced the Senate bill.
Yes, a sexual relationship between a 14 year old and 24 year old is legal, so long as it is consensual.
I'm not condoning it, but that's the law here.
It's 14/24 to 17/27. Minimum age is 14, but age of consent is 18.
The SB has to do with equalizing het and LGBT+ sex offender registration, particularly according to act. It also enforces the ten year gap.
Basically, you still get a trial, but if they find that it was consensual and the only repercussions would have been SO registry, then they will NOT be registered.
Again, not condoning it.
Nope. Absolutely not. There are certainly worse laws on the books elsewhere in the world. I am certainly not condoning it.
I'm just pointing out something written into law in a state in the USA.
A ten year gap isn't even feasible until after the age of 25. Human brains aren't fully developed until such time, so it's gross (in my opinion) when it's earlier.
They're married. In the US, only thirteen states outlaw child marriages and of those, more than half were put into law only in the last two years. The oldest state against it goes back to 2018. And of the states that remain without the law, four of them have no minimum age at all for consent; their parents can choose to marry them off whenever. There are other ways to go through with the marriage with legal consent despite age as well, such as the minor being pregnant or emancipated.
Once they are married, the age difference doesn't matter because everything will happen behind closed doors. What can be done after that are the same grounds as constitutes a divorce, like proven domestic abuse, affairs, or separation.
